Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych (PBKM) is the largest stem cell bank in Poland, and together with its parent organization – the FamiCord Group – makes it the largest stem cell bank in Europe. A team of nearly 700 people collaborates with over 1,500 hospitals, offering expecting parents the opportunity to store umbilical cord blood for later use of the stem cells it contains. Stem cell preparations from the FamiCord Group have already been used in treating over 7,500 patients, with more than 240 applications using umbilical cord blood. The company offers a wide range of services — from blood banking, through placenta storage, tissue and adipose cell storage, to DNA analysis. It operates in accordance with international and national quality standards and holds numerous certificates and accreditations. PBKM actively engages in social and educational activities, confirming its position not only as a technological leader but also as an organization with a strong medical and social mission.
Before implementing the PPM system, PBKM was in the initial stages of building a project management culture. Despite numerous initiatives, there was a lack of a coherent approach and tools for centralized project management. The company conducted many diverse projects of varying scales, but lacked transparency, straightforward task assignment, and a centralized view of the project portfolio. The goal was not only to introduce order, but also to enable a broad perspective on all project activities, including in the context of cooperation with other units of the capital group.
FlexiProject was selected from among 16 analyzed PPM tools, including both domestic and foreign solutions. Four solutions made it to the final round and were thoroughly tested by PBKM employees in practice. Key criteria were ease of use, functionality alignment with the organization’s real needs, and the quality of support from the implementation team. FlexiProject received the highest ratings and was implemented as the primary project management tool.
The first step was getting employees accustomed to daily use of the system for project management — for some of them, this was their first contact with this type of software. Emphasis was placed on interface simplicity and intuitive operation, which significantly facilitated user onboarding. The FlexiProject team provided active support at every stage – from configuration through training to post-sales support, which PBKM very highly rated.
FlexiProject became a daily work tool for project and management teams at PBKM. Employees use the system to organize their work, manage tasks, and monitor project progress. The system implementation positively impacted:
Additionally, thanks to clear visualizations and reporting capabilities, PBKM plans to make broader use of FlexiProject’s capabilities for creating visual project reports and to utilize other system functions increasingly. PBKM treats the FlexiProject implementation as an essential step toward increasing project maturity. The system develops along with the organization – the company tracks updates and successively expands the scope of its use.
PBKM representatives note that building project maturity is a long-term process that, thanks to FlexiProject, proceeds in a more organized, transparent manner based on a tool flexibly adapted to users’ actual needs.
